MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Eriel Lawson scored on a double steal with pinch runner Sierra Smith drawing a throw down to second base in the top of the seventh inning as Alabama A&M came away with the winning margin for a 4-3 win at Alabama State on Sunday afternoon.Â
Â
Ariel Smith and Viridiana Ramos each hit solo home runs to lead the Lady Bulldogs (16-21 overall, 6-7 SWAC).Â
Â
The Lady Hornets (14-29 overall, 8-6 SWAC) did rally in the game, however, when ASU put together a three-run third inning behind a triple by
Valerie Centeno and a RBI double by
Jenna Mae Thorne.
Â
Aleesa Yanez hit a hard hit ball in the hole between short and third.Â
Â
The ball was cut off by the Lady Bulldogs' third baseman and bobbled away as
Kendall Core and Thorne both came around to score.
Â
The homer by Ariel Smith tied it at 3 in the sixth before the winning score on the double steal in the seventh.
Â
Chelsea King pitched four innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits, struck out two and walked one.Â
Â
Melissa Christmann (5-11) took the loss after coming in relief and allowing two runs in two and two third innings pitched. She struck out three.Â
Â
