MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State softball team dropped Monday's nonconference doubleheader with Middle Tennessee State 11-2 in five innings and 9-4 in the nightcap at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex to conclude the regular season.

The Lady Hornets (17-31 overall) showed improvement in game two by battling back to trail just 3-2 through four innings on the strength of a couple of solo home runs by
Valerie Centeno and
Kendall Core.
Â
It was Centeno's second home run of the season and Core's fifth.Â
Â
ASU picked up two additional runs on a RBI groundout by
Carly Evans and a RBI single by
Perry Hindi.
Â
Centeno, Hindi and Core each had two hits apiece to lead the ASU attack.Â
Â
But, the Lady Hornets allowed two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and another in the seventh as the Blue Raiders (20-26) hit the ball well all night.

In game one, Hindi had a two-run triple that scored
Aleesa Yanez and
Jazzmin Romero in the fifth inning to account for each of ASU's runs.Â
Â
Middle Tennessee State scored a run in the first inning and then broke it open with a four-run third followed by a five-run fourth and then added another in the fifth.Â
Â
Alabama State will return to action next Wednesday when the SWAC Tournament begins in Decatur, Alabama.Â
