MONTGOMERY – The Alabama State women's basketball team will host Texas Southern in a SWAC showdown, Saturday, January 30 at 3 p.m. in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
 
ASU (7-9, SWAC 5-2) is returning home after a nail-biting road victory over Alcorn State 52-51 with a game-winning 3-pointer by Kayla Tucker.
 
The Texas Southern Lady Tigers who are currently on a 10-game winning streak (11-6, SWAC 7-0) are coming into town after a dominant 57-30 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday.
 
This will be the 71^st match-up between the Lady Hornets and the Lady Tigers, with ASU leading the overall series 45-25. During the Freda Freeman-Jackson era, ASU holds a 25-12 series advantage.
 
 In the last match-up between these two SWAC powerhouses was during the 2014-15 season, where Alabama State fell to Texas Southern 67-51 on February 28, 2015, at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
 
ASU is led by preseason Player of the Year Britney Wright who leads the team in scoring with 14 points per game while grabbing 7.8 rebounds per game.
 
ASU's defensive anchor and preseason Defensive Player of the Year Jasmine Peeples is gradually coming to form after her preseason injury, averaging 6.3 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.
   
TSU, while led by the preseason First Team duo of guards Brianna Sidney and Jazzmin Parker are a balanced, offensive team with center Keiana Vines and forward Toni Cheadle. Sidney averages 12.5 points per game Parker averages 11.4 points per game while Vines averages 12.6 points and 7.3 rebounds accompanied by Cheadle's 9.2 points and 7 rebounds.
