MONTGOMERY – Alabama State's women's basketball will host Southern University, Saturday, February 20th at 3:00 p.m. in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

ASU (12-9, SWAC 10-2 SWAC) is fresh off a 77-63 statement  road victory over intra-state rival Alabama A&M last Saturday, which extend their winning streak in the SWAC to a conference-leading 10 wins. 
 
Southern (13-9, SWAC 10-3 SWAC) enters the game ranked third in conference standings  possessing a three-game winning streak after soundly defeating Mississippi Valley State 78-26 this past Monday.
  
The Lady Hornets who'saveraging63.4 points per game, are led by Britney Wright's team-high of 14.5 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per game, while 6-foot 2 defensive anchor Jasmine Peeples is coming off her second double-double,  of the season (15 points and 13 rebounds) is averaging 7.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
 
Ashanti Spencer and Daniele Ewert are prominent players off the bench on both ends of the court. Both Spencer (7.3 points) and Ewert (7.2 points) are averaging a little over seven points per game in addition to intangibles on the defensive end such as guarding the top wing scorer on the team and taking charges. 
 
The Southern's Lady Jaguars charge is led by All-SWAC preseason second team members Britney Washington and Briana Green. Washington led the team with 13.4 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game while, Green averages 11.5 points per game with five rebounds per game. The Lady Jaguars averages 63.9 points per game in addition to causing 22.5 turnovers per game.
 
This will be the 75th meeting between ASU and SU. Southern leads the series 39-34. The last time these two teams faced off was Jan. 23 when ASU defeated Southern at their place in a 60-59 overtime thriller.
 
"This game is a must win for us," said head coach Freda Freeman-Jackson.  "Both teams are playing well (speaking of ASU and Southern), and we may have won the first time, but we know that Southern is coming in here tomorrow looking for pay back.  We can't let that happen, we must keep playing good ball and play our game the best way we know how."
