Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The Alabama State men's basketball team lost in overtime at Arkansas-Pine Bluff 75-70 Monday night at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
In a game of runs, Alabama State got off to a fast start, leading 8-0 in the first three-plus minutes. After Arkansas-Pine Bluff rallied to take an 11-10 lead with 13:43 to play in the first half, the Hornets took control.
Mikel Tyson's layup gave Alabama State a 12-11 lead just 15 seconds later. ASU would gradually increase the lead to 18 points, 35-17 in the first half, on a
Tony Armstrong jumper with less than three minutes to play until halftime.
However, UAPB (6-19 overall, 4-7 SWAC) gradually cut into the lead and tied the game at 66-all with a minute to play in regulation to force overtime. The Golden Lions outscored Alabama State 9-4 in the extra session.
Armstrong led three Hornets in double figures with 19 points and seven rebounds.
Jamel Waters scored 14 points, and
Corvon Butler 13 for Alabama State (8-15, 3-8).
The Hornets return to action Saturday at Alabama A&M at 6 p.m., with a live radio broadcast online on bamastatesports.com, with the local broadcast in Montgomery on Yo! 100.5 FM and nationally on HSRN.
