ASU defeated by Jacksonville State


MONTGOMERY, AL – The ASU softball team fell behind in a humongous hole and were unable to recover as it lost 12-3 to Jacksonville State in five innings on Wednesday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.
 
Alabama State (11-18 overall) committed two costly errors in the opening frame and trailed 5-0 at the end of the first inning capped by home runs off the bats of Emily Church and Whitney Gillespie. 
 
The lead opened up to an 11-run lead after six runs were scored on seven hits in the second inning. 
 
The Lady Hornets chipped away at the lead when it scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
 
Alexia Boggess knocked in Brittney Wilson on a RBI single, Carly Evans scored pinch runner Kaylee Davis on a RBI single and Amira James scored Laura Aguilar on a RBI single to left field. 
 
Kendall Core was the only ASU player with multiple hits as the junior went 2-for-3 at the plate. 
 
Melissa Christmann (4-7) started in the circle and did not record an out. 

The senior right hander allowed four runs (two earned) on two hits before departing the game.

The Lady Hornets will travel to take on SWAC opponent Grambling State for a three-game series beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday.
