MONTGOMERY, AL – The ASU softball team fell behind in a humongous hole and were unable to recover as it lost 12-3 to Jacksonville State in five innings on Wednesday at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex.

Alabama State (11-18 overall) committed two costly errors in the opening frame and trailed 5-0 at the end of the first inning capped by home runs off the bats of Emily Church and Whitney Gillespie.Â

The lead opened up to an 11-run lead after six runs were scored on seven hits in the second inning.Â

The Lady Hornets chipped away at the lead when it scored a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Brittney Wilson on a RBI single,
Carly Evans scored pinch runner
Kaylee Davis on a RBI single and
Amira James scored
Laura Aguilar on a RBI single to left field.Â

Kendall Core was the only ASU player with multiple hits as the junior went 2-for-3 at the plate.Â

Melissa Christmann (4-7) started in the circle and did not record an out.Â
The senior right hander allowed four runs (two earned) on two hits before departing the game.Â
