HOUSTON, Texas – The Alabama State men's basketball team will try to rebound after a tough defeat by Texas Southern on Monday night as the Hornets visit Prairie View A&M in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game on ESPNU.
Alabama State (5-15 overall, 3-5 SWAC) hit the road on Saturday, falling 70-68, to conference-leader Texas Southern, while Prairie View A&M (7-15, 4-4) defeated Alabama A&M, 70-65.
"This team is growing effort wise, playing with intensity and playing for each other," Alabama State head coach
Lewis Jackson said. "We have to take advantage of little opportunities that we are giving. The loss on Saturday was a tough loss, but we have to bounce back and get ready for a game on Monday night against Prairie View. The game is right around the corner, and they beat Alabama A&M this weekend. We have to look at film, get the guys prepared and get the guys back up again for another tough ball game. It is always tough to win on this swing, but we have to go in there and try and get a split off this road trip."
Against Texas Southern, the Hornets shot 28-of-63 (44 percent) from the field and 8-of-20 from behind the 3-point arc (40 percent). The biggest difference came at the free-throw line as Alabama State was 4-of-10 (40 percent), while Texas Southern shot 85 percent (23-of-27).
Three players reached double figures in scoring on Saturday night as
Rodney Simeon paced the offense with 17 points.
Tony Armstrong had 14 points and
