Free Throws Costly for MBB during JSU Setback

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A second half surge by the Alabama State men's basketball team was not enough as the Hornets fell to 1-1 in SWAC play after suffering a 63-60 setback to the Jackson State Tigers, Wednesday, Jan. 4 in Montgomery, Alabama.

Back-to-back Hornet buckets early in the first gave ASU its largest lead of the game at four, after a Steve Rogers layup gave the home team a 5-1 lead at the 17:25 mark.

The remaindered of the first half played in favor of JSU as the visiting Tigers took a 37-29 lead into the locker room.

At the break, Reginald Gee led ASU with nine points, while on the boards Amri Warnock pulled down a team-best five rebounds.

Second half was all Alabama State as the Hornets outscored JSU 31-26.

With 2:27 left in the contest, Terrance LeFlore connected on one-of-two foul shots, bringing the game within one, before JSU's Derek Roscoe answered with a dunk at the other end, putting the Tigers back up there with 1:11 left to play.

Neither team scored for the final minutes of the contest despite the Hornets making it to the foul line.

Three Hornets finished in double figures led by Rodney Simeon's 12 points, trailed by Reginald Gee and LeFlore's 11 each.

On the Glass Warnock collected eight rebounds while blocking two shots.

Alabama State returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 as the Hornets travel to Arkansas - Pine Bluff for a 5 p.m. match-up in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
