MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State opens the home portion of this year's schedule Monday night against Savannah State at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Alabama State (0-1) hits the floor for the first time since falling to defending national champion, South Carolina, last Friday. In that contest,
Amber Hunt led the Lady Hornets with eight points, and
Victoria Harvey recorded a team-high nine rebounds, while
Shamyiah Smith added eight assists – a new career high.
The game marks the first of two at home this week for the Lady Hornets, who will host Troy on Thursday night and is one of three at home this month for Alabama State. Last season, the Lady Hornets won eight of their 11 games at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Meanwhile, Savannah State (1-0), a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, enters the game after an 86-44 victory over LaGrange College. In that contest, Donasja Scott led the Tigers with 19 points and 16 rebounds, while Kaylee Allen added 16 points and eight rebounds.
Savannah State welcomes 11 newcomers including nine freshman.
The last time the two teams met was in November of last year when Savannah State claimed a 54-39 victory in Tiger Arena. In that contest,
Tatyana Calhoun led Alabama State with eight points and seven rebounds.
The game tips off at 7:00 pm at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
