BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action Sunday afternoon to face their second consecutive in-state opponent, Samford University inside Pete Hanna Arena.
Alabama State (1-2) enters the contest after falling to Troy, 93-63, on Thursday night. In that contest, senior guard
Shamyiah Smith led Alabama State with 12 points and four assists, while
Kayla Stephens added 10 points..

Smith leads the Lady Hornets in scoring and assists, averaging 8.7 points and 4.7 assists per game. Meanwhile,
Tatyana Calhoun leads the Lady Hornets in rebounding with 6.3 per game.

Samford (0-2) opened the season with a 71-60 loss to Colorado, and then fell short at Arkansas, 84-63 (November 12).

Hannah Nichols leads the Bulldogs in scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Meanwhile, Olivia Crozier averages 14.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game.

Alabama State and Samford will meet for the 15th time in school history, with Samford holding a 10-4 advantage in the series. Last season, Alabama State fell to Samford 63-49 at the Pete Hanna Center.
