CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. | Following their contest with Mississippi State to open the season, Alabama State embarked on a 10-day road trip that included a pair of games against teams that were NCAA Tournament participants a season ago.
That 10-day trip concludes Monday and Tuesday at McKenzie Arena where Alabama State will face Chattanooga on the first night of the Cayman Islands Classic – Chattanooga Bracket Monday night, followed by a match-up with either Jacksonville State or Savannah State Tuesday.
Alabama State (0-4) enters the tournament looking for their first win of the season following a loss to Oregon, a Final Four participant a season ago, on the road Friday night.
The Hornets enter the contest averaging 61.3 points per game and shooting 36.1 percent from the floor, and 34.5 percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Chattanooga (0-2) enters the game averaging 56.0 points per game and shooting 37.7 percent from the floor, while shooting 31.1 percent from beyond the arc.
Sophomore
Reginald Gee leads the team in scoring after leading the team in scoring against Oregon, averaging 11.5 points per game. He is shooting 38.5 (15-of-39) percent from the floor and 42.1 (8-of-19) percent from beyond the arc for the Hornets.
Ed Jones is averaging 9.5 points per game, while
Jacoby Ross is averaging 7.0 points per game. Ross has dished out eight assists in four games, with six of those coming against Oregon for a career high.
Branden Johnson leads the team in rebounding at 5.0 rebounds per game, while
Tobi Ewuosho is averaging 4.8 rebounds per game.
