GRAMBLING, La. - Corvon Butler and Reginald Gee combined for 38 points as Alabama State men's basketball suffered a 82-69 setback to Grambling State on the road, Thursday, March 2 inside the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
After the Tigers opened the contest on an 11-0 run, a Gee three at the 15:40 mark took the lid off the basket for the Hornets.Â
Grambling went ahead by as many as 23 in the first before ASU went into the intermission trailing 15 (44-29).
At the half Gee and Butler each had 11 points, Gee and Tony Armstrong led the way with four boards each.
An 10-0 run midway through the second half saw the Hornets cut the Tiger's lead to six (63-55) on a jumper from Mikel Tyson at the 6:20 mark.
Foul trouble plagued the Hornets for the remainder of the game, as ASU fell 82-69, dropping to 8-21 on the season (6-11 SWAC).
In addition to Gee and Butler, Rodney Simeon added 11 points for the Hornets while Gee led the game on the glass with six rebounds.Â
ASU closes out the regular season on Saturday, March 4 as the Hornets travel to Jackson State for a 7:30 p.m., match-up in Jackson, Mississippi.
