MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action at home Saturday afternoon, hosting rival Alabama A&M at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.
As a reminder to all fans, the Clear Bag Policy will be in effect at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday afternoon. All fans are encouraged to wear black to the contest for a "Black Out." The Lady Hornets are in search of their third consecutive conference victory of the season after winning back-to-back games at home.
Alabama State (4-11, 2-2 SWAC) defeated UAPB, 63-54 in their last contest in which
Amber Hunt and
Keimeshia Walker each scored 13 points.
Walker leads the Lady Hornets in scoring this season, averaging 9.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.
Tatyana Calhoun is averaging 7.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, and has scored in double figures four times this season. She has three double-doubles this season and seven for her career, including a 17-point, 17-rebound performance against MVSU one week ago.
Kayla Stephens averages 6.2 points per game and 4.4 rebounds, and she ranks eighth in the conference at the free throw line shooting 71.4 (35-of-49) percent.
Nigeria Jones leads Alabama A&M (7-8, 2-2 SWAC), who has won their last two conference games, at 8.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Meanwhile, Ashlyn Dotson averages 7.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
Alabama State swept the season series last season, and holds a 31-21 lead in the series. The Lady Hornets claimed a 52-37 victory at Alabama A&M (1/14/17), and then claimed a 62-35 contest (2/11/17).
The game is scheduled to tip at 3 pm, with pregame on the Hornets Sports Network beginning at 2:45 pm.
