MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests this weekend, sitting just two games back of the conference lead as the schedule nears the mid-way point in the season.
 
Alabama State (3-14, 3-2 SWAC) travels to Baton Rouge (La.) to face Southern, with tip set for 5:30 pm, Saturday at the F.G. Clark Activity Center. They will hit the road Monday night to face Alcorn State, with tip set for 7:30 pm in Lorman (Miss.); with both games carried on the Hornet Sports Network.
 
Reginald Gee leads the Hornets in scoring, averaging 13.1 points per game through the first 17 games of the season. He is currently in the top 10 in the conference in scoring and in the top five in free throw shooting, and has scored in double figures 12 times so far this season. The sophomore currently sits at 490 points and 178 rebounds in his career.
 
Meanwhile, freshman Jacoby Ross is second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game in just 21.3 minutes per game through the first 17 games. However, he leads the team in scoring in conference play, hitting for 17.2 points per game. The freshman leads the conference in three-point field goal percentage and is currently fourth in free throw percentage, eighth in field goal percentage and 10th in assists.
 
Redshirt sophomore Branden Johnson is near the top of the conference and blocked shots, as he averaging close to seven (6.8) rebounds per game through the first 17 games and 1.5 blocked shots. However, in conference action, Johnson is averaging a near double-double at 9.8 points and 11.3 rebounds per game and has grabbed double-digit rebounds in the last four games.
 
Meanwhile, Southern (6-13, 2-4 SWAC) is led by Jared Sam at 15.8 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. Emmanuel Sheperd is averaging 5.5 rebounds per game. The opponent for Monday, Alcorn State (5-14, 1-5 SWAC) is led by A.J.Mosby at 13.2 points per game.
 
The game Saturday can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show at 5:15 pm from Baton Rouge.
