MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Fresh off their two-game road trip to the Midwest, Alabama State is set for their home opener against LaGrange College Sunday afternoon at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Tip is set for 5:30 pm against the Panthers, and the game will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network beginning at 5:15 pm.
Alabama State (0-2) enters the game after back-to-back losses to Iowa State and South Dakota State to open the season. The Hornets fell to South Dakota State 78-61 Thursday despite 25 points from
Jacoby Ross and 10 points from
Branden Johnson on the night. Alabama State got down early against the Jackrabbits, who have been the to the NCAA Tournament three consecutive times, but fought their way back to within 11 midway through the second half before South Dakota State went on a run to pull away.
Alabama State will play just two games at home before the conference schedule picks up in January, facing Birmingham Southern on Wednesday.
Ross leads the Hornets, averaging 16 points per game and shooting 40 (8-of-20) percent from beyond the arc. Meanwhile,
Reginald Gee – a second team preseason all-conference selection – is averaging 12 points per game through the first two games of the season, while
Leon Daniels is averaging eight points and 2.5 rebounds. Meanwhile, Johnson is averaging seven rebounds per game, including a season-high 11 against Iowa State in the opener.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $15 for reserved seating at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Sunday.
