MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns to action Thursday night with a game against in-state foe Samford inside Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Alabama State (0-2) enters the contest after falling to tenth-ranked South Carolina, 94-37, on Sunday night. In that contest, freshman guard
Jayla Crawford led Alabama State with 10 points while
Ayana Emmanuel added seven points.
Emmanuel is the top scorer for the Lady Hornets, averaging 7.5 points per game while Crawford follows closely behind with 6.0 points per contest. Meanwhile,
Shmya Ward leads the Lady Hornets in rebounding with 4.5 per game.
Samford (1-2) opened the season with an 89-68 loss to Tennessee-Martin; however, the Bulldogs followed up with a win against Rhodes College 71-54 (November 8) before falling short at Arkansas, 84-63 (November 12).
Paige Serup leads the Bulldogs in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per game. Meanwhile, Charity Brown leads the Bulldogs in assists (6.0) and rebounds (5.0).
Alabama State and Samford will be meeting for the 16th time in school history, with Samford holding an 11-4 advantage in the series. Last season, Alabama State fell to Samford 58-39 at the Pete Hanna Center.
