@BamaStateMBB continues road swing with matchup against South Dakota State

The two teams met last season in Brookings, with the Jackrabbits picking up the win

BROOKINGS, SD | Alabama State continues their two-game road swing Thursday night, facing South Dakota State for the second time in as many years at Frost Arena.

Tip is set for 7 pm, with pregame set for 6:45 pm on the Hornet Sports Network.

Alabama State (0-1) enters the contest off a 79-53 loss to Iowa State Tuesday night, after the Cyclones were able to pull away in the second half after taking advantage of Alabama State turnovers. Reginald Gee led Alabama State with 15 points off the bench, including connecting on four three-pointers; marking the 38th time the junior has scored in double figures for Alabama State in his career.

Meanwhile, Leon Daniels added 11 in his first collegiate start with three three-pointers, and Branden Johnson finished the night with 11 rebounds. The double-digit rebounding total was the eighth time in the last two years Johnson has reached that plateau for the Hornets, while Gene Davis led the team with four assists.

They will be facing a South Dakota State (1-0) team who comes into the contest off a 79-74 victory over Grand Canyon in their season opener. The Jackrabbits, who have made it to the NCAA Tournament the last three seasons with the automatic bid from the Summit League, used three players in double figures to come away with the win in the season opener. David Jenkins led South Dakota State with 31 points, while Mike Daum posted 20 points and 13 rebounds – his 33rd career double-double – and Matt Dentlinger added 11 points in his first collegiate game.

The Jackrabbits carry the nation's longest home winning streak into the contest, having won 21 consecutive games at Frost Arena including last year's matchup with Alabama State.

In that game last season, the Jackrabbits pulled away for a 94-60 victory over Alabama State. Steve Rogers led the way with 17 points off the bench for the Hornets, while Terrance LeFlore added 13 and Reginald Gee 13. Ed Jones chipped in 11 points in the loss. Meanwhile, Daum led South Dakota State with 30 points and 13 rebounds, while Jenkins added 20 points in the victory for the Jackrabbits.
