@BamaStateMBB begins 11-day road trip at Boise State

Hornets have been off for two weeks since their last contest

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | After nearly two weeks off, Alabama State hits the road for five games covering four states in 11 days, beginning with Boise State Wednesday night.

Alabama State (2-4) last played November 28 on the road at Akron, an 86-54 loss, before taking time off for final exams at the school. The Hornets will also travel to Utah State (December 15), Sam Houston State (December 18) and a pair of games in Tampa (December 21-22).

The Hornets and Boise State (3-5) have never met, and will meet for the first time in school history at the Arguinchona Basketball Complex inside Taco Bell Arena Wednesday night. The game tips at 7 pm (mst), and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network.

Alabama State enters the game off back-to-back road losses to 20th-ranked Iowa and Akron, and are looking for their first road win in non-conference play since defeating Cal-State Fullerton in November 2016 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The Hornets enter the contest with the eighth-toughest schedule in the country according to ESPN's BPI rankings released last week.

The pre-Christmas trip for the Hornets close out non-conference play, as they will pick up Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play January 5 at home.

Reginald Gee continues to lead Alabama State in scoring at 15.2 points per game through the first six games of the season, as he continues his move towards 1,000-career points. The junior is shooting 45.9 (28-of-61) percent from the floor and 52 (13-of-25) percent from beyond the arc on the season, while hitting on 22-of-28 from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, Jacoby Ross averages 13.8 points per game and leads the team with 17 total assists. The sophomore is also shooting 39.5 (17-of-43) percent from beyond the arc and remains perfect from the free throw line on the season (12-of-12).

Branden Johnson leads the team in rebounding at 7.2 per game, while AJ Farrar (6.0 rpg) and Fausto Pichardo (5.6 rpg) have helped the Hornets average 37.3 rebounds per game through the first six games of the season.

Alabama State is averaging 71.5 point per game this season, while shooting 42.2 (154-of-365) percent from the floor and 33.8 (46-of-136) percent from beyond the arc. The Hornets scored a season-high 97 points in a win over LaGrange earlier this season, a game in which they blocked a season-high 10 shots.

Meanwhile, Boise State enters following an 82-62 victory over Central Washington Sunday to register their third win of the season. The Broncos are led by R.J. Williams at 16.4 points per game to pace three players in double figures. Justinian Jessup averages 12.8 points and Derrick Alston 11.8 points per game for Boise State through eight game.
