MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Jacoby Ross led three Alabama State players in double figures as the Hornets ran past Alcorn State, 82-62 in a nationally-televised Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Monday night.
Ross led Alabama State (7-19, 7-7 SWAC) with 19 points and seven rebounds, while also adding six assists in a game seen on ESPNU. The freshman finished the night 7-of-12 from the floor and also hit on two of his three three-point opportunities.
Reginald Gee finished with 17 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor, while also grabbing five rebounds.
Fausto Pichardo chipped in with 14 points and eight rebounds, missing just one shot from the floor; while
Terrance LeFlore finished the night with five steals in the win.
Alabama State finished the night shooting 57.6 (34-of-59) percent from the floor and 21.4 (3-of-11) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 57.9 (11-of-19) percent from the free throw line, grabbing 34 rebounds to outrebound the Braves by four.
A.J. Mosby led Alcorn State (10-18, 6-9 SWAC) with 18 points, while Yalen Reed finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dante Sterling finished with 11 points and six rebounds in the loss.
Alcorn State shot 41.1 (23-of-56) percent from the floor, while also being held to just 18.8 (3-of-16) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 81.3 (13-of-16) percent from the free throw line, while being forced into 19 turnovers.
Alabama State returns to action Saturday on the road at Prairie View A&M, with tip set for 5 pm. The game will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network, with pregame beginning at 4:45 pm.
