MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for a pair of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests this weekend, beginning with Prairie View A&M on Saturday afternoon.
Alabama State (8-17, 6-8 SWAC) travels to Prairie View (Texas) to face PVAMU, with tip set for 3:00 pm, Saturday at the William J. Nicks Arena. They will hit the road Monday night to face Texas Southern, with tip set for 5:30 pm in Houston (Texas); with both games carried on the Hornet Sports Network.
Calhoun leads Alabama State in scoring, averaging 13.4 points per game. She also leads the conference in field goal percentage at 67.6 (75-for-111) percent for the season and leads her team at 6.5 rebounds per game.
Kayla Stephens averages 6.8 points per game, while
Shamyiah Smith is fifth in the conference in assists, averaging 3.2 per contest. As a team, Alabama State is second in the conference in field goal percentage (.429).
Saturday's opponent, Prairie View A&M (11-14, 9-5 SWAC) is on a three-game winning streak after defeating Mississippi Valley State, 75-74, in their last outing. Shayla Dobbins leads the Panthers in scoring at 21.6 points per game.
Meanwhile, Texas Southern (15-10, 10-4 SWAC), Monday night's opponent, is led by Joyce Kennerson at 24.3 points per game. Texas Southern is coming off a 61-59 loss to Arkansas Pine-Bluff last week in which Kaitlyn Palmer scored 29 points in the loss.
The game Saturday can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network, beginning with the pregame show at 2:45 pm from Prairie View.
