MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State and Alabama A&M will meet Saturday afternoon at T.M. Elmore Gymnasium in a key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest. The game will be the second meeting of the season, with Alabama A&M winning the first contest 78-69 in Montgomery.
Alabama State (6-16, 4-7 SWAC) enters the contest having split their last two conference contests on the road, dropping their last game 55-53 at UAPB Monday night. The Lady Hornets were led by
Tatyana Calhoun with 18 points Arleatha Gipson with 13.
Calhoun leads Lady Hornets in scoring, and is 11th in that category in the conference, averaging 13.7 points per game. She also leads the conference in field goal percentage at 72.3 (60-for-83) percent for the season, and leads her team with 6.1 rebounds per game.
Keimeshia Walker is second on the team averaging 8.4 points per game, while
Shamyiah Smith is fifth in the conference in assists, averaging 3.4 per contest. As a team, Alabama State is second in the conference in field goal percentage (.431).
Meanwhile, Alabama A&M (9-13, 4-7 SWAC) enters the game after defeating Mississippi Valley State 59-57 Monday night on the road. Ashlyn Dotson leads Alabama A&M in scoring and rebounds at 8.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per contest. Nigeria Jones is averaging 7.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Alabama State holds a 31-22 lead in the series.
The game tips at 3 pm and will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network, with pregame beginning at 2:45 pm.
