AUBURN, Ala. | Alabama State dropped their final non-conference match of the season, falling to Auburn 5-0 late Sunday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Auburn (10-12) claimed the doubles point with wins at number one and number two doubles for the 1-0 overall lead. The Auburn team of Edward Nguyen and Matteo De Vincentis defeated the Hornets' team of
Alexis Collard and
Andrej Trajkovski, 6-1 at number one doubles to take command of the doubles point early. They were able to clinch the point when the Alabama State team of
Tomas Fernandez and
Carl-Louis Luckmann fell at number two doubles 6-2 to the team of Tad Maclean and Lorenzo Rodriguez.
Alabama State (10-8) fell behind 2-0 in singles play when
Chris Andre fell 6-4, 6-0 at number four singles to Auburn's Lorenzo Rodriguez, before Trajkovski fell 6-3, 6-0 to Michael Durham at number six to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.
The match was clinched when
Alejo Calvis fell at number five (6-4, 6-1), while Fernandez dropped his singles match to 109th-ranked De Vincentis.
Alabama State does not return to action until the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championships April 13 in New Orleans (La.).
