Lady Hornets’ season ends at NCAA Regionals

Alabama State falls to top-ranked Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. | Alabama State fell to top-seeded Vanderbilt 4-0 in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament at the Currey Tennis Center, ending their season for the second consecutive season in the opening round of the tournament.
 
Alabama State dropped the doubles point when the 11th-ranked team of Astra Sharma and Fernanda Contreras defeated Reka Szentes and Chloe Kabamba 6-0 at number one, while the Commodores took the number three doubles when the team of Christina Rosca and Amanda Meyer defeated Alabama State's Mirna Curcic and Marija Blazevic 6-1.
 
Vanderbilt extended the lead to 2-0 when Sharma (11th in the nation in the singles) defeated Kabamba 6-0, 6-1 at number one singles; before the Summer Dvorak defeated Blazevic 6-2, 6-0 at number six singles.
 
Emma Kurtz clinched the match at number five singles when she defeated Curcic 6-1, 6-1.
 
Although the Lady Hornets dropped the match, Gabriela Lackova took 44th-ranked Christina Rosca to the limit in the opening set before dropping it 7-5 before the match was unfinished.
 
Alabama State (12-9) ended the season with back-to-back regular season and Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament championships.
