@BamaStateWBB continues conference action in Texas

Alabama State will face Texas Southern on Saturday at 5:30 pm

HOUSTON, Texas. | Alabama State will continue Southwestern Athletic Conference action (SWAC) in Houston, Texas on Saturday at 5:30 pm when they face Texas Southern inside of HP&E Arena.
 
The Lady Hornets (6-12, 5-2 SWAC) are on a three-game winning streak after defeating Alcorn State and Southern in their last two contests. in the 78-61 victory over Southern, Shmya Ward set a new career-high with 19 points and eight rebounds, while Jayla Crawford registered 17 points.

LADY HORNETS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Alabama State currently ranks fourth in the conference with a record of 5-2, tied with Prairie View A&M and Grambling State.
  • Ayana Emmanuel leads the Lady Hornets and Is fourth in the conference in scoring at 13.8 points per game, while Crawford is averaging 12.4 points.
  • Ward is second in the conference in rebounding at 7.6 rebounds per game and is averaging 10.9 points.
  • The Lady Hornets are second in the conference in free throw percentage (.662) and third in offensive rebounding at 40.4 per contest.
 
A TIMELINE OF TEXAS SOUTHERN
  • Texas Southern currently sits in sixth-place after defeating Mississippi Valley State, 68-50, to extend their winning streak to three.
  • The Tigers also narrowly defeated Arkansas Pine-Bluff 59-58 on Saturday.
  • Niya Mitchell was named SWAC Player of the Week for Texas Southern after averaging 16.5 points, 13 rebounds and two steals in both contests.

SERIES MATCHUP
