Montgomery, Ala. – Alabama State women's basketball continues its homestand when it hosts Paine College on Sunday afternoon with tip-off slated for 3 p.m.

The Lady Hornets held off a fourth-quarter surge from Jacksonville State to earn a 68-63 win on Wednesday night to improve to 2-2 on the season. Both teams made 22 field goals in the game but Alabama State made 19 free throws which created enough space to hold on for the win.

In the game, sophomore
Ayana Emmanuel led the way with a season- and game-high 25 points on a hot 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) shooting from the field including a career-high four three-pointers made alongside five rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Freshman
Aniyah Smith followed behind with 18 points on a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe with a game-high tying six rebounds. Junior
Courtney Lee poured in a season-high tying seven points with a career- and game-high six assists.

On the season, Smith leads the team in total points (55), points per game (13.8), rebounds (30) and rebounds per game (7.5). Additionally, Smith recorded the only double double this season against Mobile with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Emmanuel has scored 54 points this season to average 13.5 alongside 4.5 boards and 1.5 assists per game. Lee paces the team with 12 assists averaging 3.0 per game. Freshman
Hannah White is averaging a team-high 1.3 steals per game coming off the bench.
