RICHMOND, Va. | Alabama State hits the road Monday night to take on their second consecutive ranked team, this time facing No. 19/21 VCU at the Siegel Center in Richmond.
Tip is set for 7 pm (est) on ESPN+, and the game can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network beginning with pregame at 6:45 pm.
The game marks the second consecutive for Alabama State (0-4) against a ranked opponent as they face No. 17/20 Tennessee last week in Knoxville (Tenn.), with both games being part of the Emerald Coast Classic that takes place Friday after Thanksgiving. The game also marks the third against a ranked opponent (Gonzaga) this season, and the fourth against a team that is receiving votes (Houston) in the polls.
Tobi Ewuosho leads Alabama State in scoring at 14.8 points per game, including a career-high 23 points against Houston and another 17 against Tennessee in the Hornets' last game. He is also leading the team in rebounding at 5.0 rebounds per game. Meanwhile,
Brandon Battle is averaging 6.8 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game.
Kevin Holston leads the team in assists at 3.5 per game, dishing out 14 in four games; while
Kevion Stewart and
DJ Heath are tied for the team lead in steals.
VCU (5-0) enters the contest after a 30-point victory over Florida Gulf Coast Saturday and has a win over No. 23 LSU (84-82) earlier this season. The Rams have three players averaging double figures led by Marcus Evans at 13.2 points per game, while Marcus Santos-Silva is averaging a double-double five games into the season at 12.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game.
De'Riante Jenkins is also averaging in double figures at 10.8 points per game.
