MANHATTAN, Kan. | Kansas State missed just eight shots in the first half and pulled away early from Alabama State as the Hornets fell 86-41 at Bramlage Coliseum Wednesday night.
Alabama State (1-8) had no answer for Kansas State (6-3) in the first half as the Wildcats shot 71.4 (20-of-28) percent from the floor and 66.7 (10-of-15) percent from beyond the arc, pulling away for a 52-16 halftime lead. However, the Hornets were able to answer in the second half as they were outscored by just nine (34-25) in the final 20 minutes and held Kansas State to just 28.6 (2-of-7) percent from beyond the arc.
Tobi Ewuosho and
Kevin Holston each scored nine points to lead Alabama State, with Ewuosho added nine rebounds and Holston four assists in the loss. The Hornets finished the night shooting 27.3 (15-of-56) percent from the floor and 28.6 (6-of-21) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 50.0 (5-of-10) percent from the free throw line.
Meanwhile. Xavier Sneed led all scorers as he poured in 20 to lead Kansas State on 8-of-10 shooting from the floor. Antonio Gordon and DaJuan Gordon each added 13 points, while Cartier Diarra dished out 10 assists for Kansas State who finished the night shooting 62.5 (35-of-56) percent from the floor. They also shot 54.5 (12-of-22) percent from beyond the arc and 66.7 (4-of-6) percent from the free throw line.
Alabama State returns to action Saturday afternoon against Boise State on the road, with tip set for 4 pm (mst). The game will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network beginning with pregame a 3:45 pm (mst) and it will be carried on the Mountain West Network.
