@BamaStateMBB returns to action after eight days off in South Dakota

VERMILLION, S.D. | Alabama State hits the floor for the first time in December and for the first time since November 30, facing South Dakota on the road Monday night.

Alabama State (1-6) has not played since defeating Chicago State in the seventh-place game at the Emerald Coast Classic on November 30. In that contest, Brandon Battle led three players in double figures with 14 points and he also blocked three shots in the win.

Tobi Ewuosho continues to lead the Hornets in scoring at 14.1 points per game and has scored in double figures in six of the seven games thus far this season. He earned all-tournament honors at the Emerald Coast Classic and has been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Player of the Week already one time this season. He also leads the team in rebounding at 6.0 rebounds per game, and currently leads the conference in free throws made and attempted.

Jacoby Ross, closing in on 800 career points, is second on the team in scoring through the first seven games this season at 7.0 points per game, while Battle is averaging 6.4 points per game and is shooting 40.5 (15-of-37) percent from the floor. Kevin Holston (2.7 per game) and DJ Heath (1.9 per game) have combined for 30 of the team's 48 assists this season.

Meanwhile, South Dakota (7-3) enters the game after having won five of their first six games, before dropping a pair of games to Arkansas and Washington on the road. The Coyotes have four players in double figures this season led by Tyler Hagedorn at 17.9 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game (second on the team). He is joined in double figures by Stanley Umude at 16.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, while Triston Simpson (12.0 ppg) and Cody Kelley (10.2 ppg) are also in double figures.

Tip is set for 7 pm at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center, with pregame beginning at 6:45 pm on the Hornet Sports Network.
