Lady Hornets look to sweep season series

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State looks to get back in the win column when they host Texas Southern in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) matchup on Saturday.
 
Tip is set for 3 pm inside Dunn-Oliver Acadome, and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network with the pregame show beginning prior to tip.
 
The Lady Hornets (10-15, 9-5 SWAC) split their last two games, defeating Alcorn State 70-58 on Saturday and falling 62-52 against Southern on Monday night. Ayana Emmanuel and Shmya Ward each recorded 25 points in the win, while Jayla Crawford paced the way with 16 points in the loss.
 
Texas Southern (12-13, 8-6 SWAC) snapped a two-game losing streak by winning their last two contests against Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Mississippi Valley by double digits. With the wins, the Lady Tigers currently sit in a three-way tie for fifth place in the conference.
 
SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIALS
  • Alabama State welcomes in all prospective students to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome for Connection Day. 
  • The Alabama State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will celebrate the 1989 team and its championship this weekend at Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

A LOOK AT THE LADY HORNETS
  • Ayana Emmanuel leads the Lady Hornets offense, averaging 13.8 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, while Jayla Crawford is at 12.5 points.
  • Ward is averaging 10.6 points and snagging 7.3 rebounds per contest for the Lady Hornets.
  • Alabama State is third in the conference in offensive rebounding, hauling in 40.3 per game.
 
SCOUTING TEXAS SOUTHERN
  • The Lady Tigers are averaging 61.3 points per game, while its opponents are averaging 60.9 points.
