PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas. | Jayla Crawford led Alabama State with 12 points Monday night at William J. Nicks Arena, but it wasn't enough as Prairie View A&M snapped Alabama State's four-game winning streak with a 71-59 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory.
Crawford led Alabama State (7-13, 6-3 SWAC) with five field goals and 50 (2-of-4) percent shooting from the free throw line. Courtney Lee added nine points, while Shmya Ward chipped in eight points and eight rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals. Tyesha Rudolph and Taylor Aikerson each added seven points in the loss.
Artavia Ford was one of three players in double figures for PVAMU (10-9, 7-2 SWAC) with 17 points and seven rebounds, and was joined by Shayla Dobbins with 15 points and Dominique Newman with 13 points and three steals. 
Alabama State trailed 35-27 at the halftime break, but battled their way back into the contest in the third quarter after seven unanswered points by Lee to cut the lead to eight (49-41). The Lady Hornets found themselves down by 10 to end the third, however, two free throws by Newman with 3:55 left pushed the lead to 18, a deficit in which Alabama State couldn't recover.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Alabama State shot 42.3 (22-of-52) percent from the floor in the loss, while shooting 25.0 (2-of-8) percent from beyond the arc. 
They also finished at 59.1 (13-of-22) percent from the free throw line, while forcing 15 Panther turnovers.
Alabama State won the rebounding battle 36-31.
Prairie View finished with 24 points in the paint, 17 bench points and four second chance points.
The Lady Hornets finished with 32 points in the paint, 15 second chance points and 31 bench points.
PVAMU forced 20 Lady Hornet turnovers that they converted into 24 points, while Alabama State scored 13 points off of Prairie View's miscues.
