JACKSON, Miss. | Hailey Walker picked up a pair of hits and scored the lone run for Alabama State as they fell to Jackson State 5-1 in a Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest Thursday night.
Despite getting runners on and into scoring position multiple times throughout the game, the Lady Hornets were unable to capitalize and fell victim to a big inning by Jackson State. The Tigers scored five runs in the fourth to pull away for the win.

Justine Jean (7-7) suffered with the loss as she gave up five runs (only one of the runs ended up being earned) on just five hits.
The loss by the Lady Hornets in the series opener is the second consecutive series that Alabama State has dropped the opening game. They came back to win the series against UAPB last weekend after dropping the opener.
How it Happened
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Jackson State took advantage of a pair of bases loaded walks to take a 2-0 lead. They added to that lead on a two-run single by Kelsey Smith to push the lead to 4-0, before using another RBI single by Madelyn Prukop to push the lead to 5-0.
Alabama State got on the board in the fifth when Massie reached on an infield single back to the pitcher, driving in Walker for the final margin.
What's Next
Alabama State and Jackson State return to action tomorrow, with the first pitch scheduled for 12 pm. The second game following twenty minutes approximately after the first game is complete or at 2 pm; whichever comes first.
