@BamaStateMBB returns home for clash with Texas schools

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home this weekend for a pair of games against a pair of schools from out West, beginning with Prairie View A&M Saturday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Alabama State (3-17, 2-5 SWAC) will face the two leaders of the conference beginning with Prairie View A&M (10-10, 6-1 SWAC) at 5 pm Saturday night on Greek Night, followed by Texas Southern (9-11, 6-1 SWAC) Monday night on First Responders Night. Both games will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network via YouTube.

The contests are the first at home since mid-January but will mark the beginning of seven games in the final 11 at home this season for the Hornets.

#What to Watch For
Tobi Ewuosho is the lone player averaging double figures for the Hornets as he has scored in double figures in 16 of the first 20 games this season. He is currently averaging 14.8 points and 6.1 rebounds per game on the season, and during conference play is averaging 15.9 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Leon Daniels is second on the team in scoring at 8.9 points per game, and in conference play is averaging 12.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Against Texas Southern last year in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) tournament, Daniels scored a then-career high 24 points and pulled down a career-high 13 rebounds.

Ewuosho and Daniels both turned in career performances on the road last week, with Ewuosho pouring in 26 points against Southern (1.25.20) and Daniels 25 against Alcorn State (1.27.20).

Brandon Battle is averaging 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game and has narrowly missed a double-double three times this year. Meanwhile, Tyrese Robinson made his return to the lineup after missing 15 games and scored seven points against Southern (1.25.20) and pulled down five rebounds against Alcorn State (1.27.20).

#Scouting Prairie View A&M
Prairie View A&M, last year's conference champion, sits atop the conference standings with Texas Southern although the Tigers have the tiebreaker due to a head-to-head matchup. The Panthers have won the last six meetings with Alabama State.

This season, Prairie View A&M is led by Devonte Patterson at 14.3 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game, while Gerard Andrus is averaging 14.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. They are joined in double figures by Darius Williams at 12.6 points and 2.4 rebounds, while Lenell Henry is averaging a team-high 6.0 rebounds per game.

#Scouting Texas Southern
Texas Southern is currently tied with Prairie View A&M atop the conference standings but owns the tiebreaker due to a head-to-head matchup. They have also won the last 13 meetings against Alabama State including all three games last season.

The Tigers currently have three players averaging double figures this season led by Tyrik Armstrong at 14.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He is joined by John Walker III at 12.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Yahuza Rasas is averaging 10.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game.

Reigning SWAC Player of the Week Eden Ewing is averaging 9.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, while averaging a double-double last week.
