@BamaStateWBB Continues SWAC-Opening Road Swing at Grambling State

RUSTON, La. | Alabama State will look to bounce back from a league-opening loss when it continues its weekend SWAC road trip at Grambling State Monday night; tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
 
Last time out, Jackson State shot 57 percent from the field and jumped out to an early advantage against Alabama State – which proved to be enough to take the contest. The Lady Hornets saw strong offensive outputs from Ayana Emmanuel and Tyesha Rudolph in the game, who scored 15 and 12 points respectively.
 
The matchup will feature two of the top free-throw-shooting teams in the Southwestern Conference as Alabama State leads the league in free throws attempted (263) and free throws made (174), while Grambling has the best free throw percentage in the conference (68.6).
 
Lady Hornet Leaders
On the season, On the season, freshman Aniyah Smith leads the team in scoring at 10.7 points per game, while shooting 41.3 (31-for-75) percet from the floor. Smith also paces the team with 6.7 rebounds per game with a total of 61 (31 offensive, 30 defensive) in her nine games this season.
 
Emmanuel is tied with Smith for the team lead in scoring, also averaging 10.7 per game while hitting 37 (17-of-46) percent of her three-point opportunities and 81.8 (27-for-33) percent from the charity stripe - both of which lead the team.  
 
Taming the Tigers
Grambling had a tough climb through the non-conference slate (1-10), but opened up SWAC play with a 10-point win over Alabama A&M Saturday night. The Tigers defend the three-point line well, ranking in the top 100 nationally and leading the league with an opponent's three-point percentage of 28.6. Justice Coleman leads the squad with 13.9 points per game.
