Streak reaches four for @BamaStateMBB with win over UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark. | For the second consecutive game on the road, Alabama State battled back from a halftime deficit to run their winning streak to four with a 57-49 victory over UAPB at the H.O. Clemmons Arena in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play Monday night.

Alabama State (7-17, 6-5 SWAC) trailed for much of the first half and trailed 27-22 before going on a run in the second half to push their lead to double digits. The Hornets used six consecutive points from Brandon Battle to take a 28-27 lead, and then held UAPB scoreless for a span of 2:35 during a double-digit run to push the lead 10 with 13:09 to play in the contest.

After UAPB came back to get the game down to one possession, Alabama State was able to put the game away with free throws to keep their winning streak alive. The Hornets were able use 55.0 (11-of-20) percent shooting from the floor to surge ahead.

Leon Daniels led Alabama State with 16 points and eight rebounds, while hitting on 6-of-7 from the free throw line. Battle and AJ Farrar added 11 for Alabama State who finished the night shooting 42.5 (17-of-40) percent from the floor and 20.0 (3-of-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also finished the night shooting 57.1 (20-of-35) percent from the free throw line.

Jacoby Ross added nine points off the bench for the Hornets.

The Hornets used their defense to keep UAPB to low-shooting percentages and 16 turnovers for the win. The Golden Lions shot just 35.3 (18-of-51) percent from the floor and just 7.7 (1-of-13) percent from beyond the arc.

Dequan Morris was the lone player in double figures for UAPB (3-20, 2-9 SWAC).

Alabama State returns to action Saturday night against Alabama A&M at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on "Black Out Night" with tip set for 5 pm. The game can be seen on the Hornet Sports Network.
