@BamaStateSB Drops Mid-Week Contest at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. | Mississippi State used big innings in the third and the fourth to take a 16-2 win over Alabama State in five innings at Nusz Park Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (5-0) scored eight runs in the third inning and six runs in the fourth inning to run away with the victory – using 12 combined hits and four Lady Hornet errors over that span.

Alabama State (2-4) fell behind by two runs early but responded with a couple of runs in the top of the third to tie the game back up.

After a quick out, Schylur Edwards got the third-inning rally started by drawing a walk out of a full count battle, then advancing to second on a wild pitch. The following at-bat, freshman Kindall DeRamus singled up the middle to score Edwards then came around to score when Alexis Sydnor laced a double off the left field wall.

DeRamus finished the afternoon 2-for-3 with the RBI single and a run scored to lead Alabama State offensively.

The Bulldogs answered immediately with a huge bottom half of the third, scoring eight runs in the frame. It was all sparked by a three-run homer by Montgomery-native Madisyn Kennedy off the scoreboard.

Mississippi State essentially iced the game away with six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Fe Leilua hit her second home run of the afternoon in that fourth, this one a two-run blast to left. Leilua finished 2-for-3 with the two homers and three RBIs to lead all batters.
