JACKSONVILLE, Ala. | Jacksonville State scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning, which proved to be the difference in a 9-4 mid-week win over Alabama State at University Field Tuesday night.
The Gamecocks (12-9) put up the six-spot after five hits and a couple of Lady Hornet (10-15) fielding errors in the inning.
Alabama State answered immediately in the top of the second, however, when
Schylur Edwards hit her third home run in the last four games with a solo shot to deep left center field. Edwards has turned it on as of late, homering against Southern Saturday, Grambling Sunday and Jacksonville State Tuesday night.
Freshman
Kindall DeRamus led the Lady Hornets offensively, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a couple of runs scored.
Morgan Gaither also turned in multiple hits with a 2-for-2 night that included an RBI double of the right field fence.
Kaley Anthony drove in DeRamus a couple of times in the game – once on a ground out in the fifth and again on a single in the top of the seventh.
Justine Jean (1-6) suffered the loss after just one inning of work –
Skyler Sullivan finished the game in the circle, striking out three in the final six innings. Jax State's Macy Bearden (3-4) picked up the win in the circle after allowing just two runs in four innings of work, while Alexus Jimmerson (2) got the save after three innings where she fanned three batters.
