MONTGOMERY, Ala | Shmya Ward posted her third double-double of the season to lead Alabama State to their fourth consecutive win, 68-57 over Alcorn State, Saturday night at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Ward finished the night with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while shooting 6-for-9 from the floor and connecting on seven of her eight free throw attempts. She was joined in double figures by
Ayana Emmanuel with 15 points, and
Farrah Pearson with 11 points and seven rebounds off of the bench.
Alabama State (4-0) shot 60 percent or better in three of the four quarters against the Braves, including 62.5 (5-for-8) percent from the floor in the third quarter. They also shot 54.5 (6-for-11) percent from the floor in the second quarter.
The Lady Hornets finished the night shooting 47.1 (24-for-51) percent from the floor, while also shooting just 26.7 (4-for-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 66.7 (16-of-24) percent from the free throw line, while outrebounding Alcorn State by 20 (52-32).
Kirdis Clark led Alcorn State (4-7, 4-2 SWAC) with 16 points, while Tyginae Wright added 12 off the bench for the Lady Braves who finished the night shooting 34.8 (24-for-69) percent from the floor and just 19.2 (5-for-26) percent from beyond the arc.
Alabama State returns to action Monday night, hosting Southern at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The tip is scheduled for 5:30 pm and can be seen on the Hornet Sports Network.
