MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road for their first road trip of the season Saturday night, facing UAPB at H.O. Clemmons Arena in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) play.

The game tips at 5 pm on Saturday and can be heard on the Hornet Sports Network.

Alabama State (0-2, 0-2 SWAC) looks to bounce back from a pair of home losses to open the season this past weekend, while UAPB (2-8, 1-0 SWAC) ended a three-game losing streak with a win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday.

Kenny Strawbridge leads Alabama State in scoring and rebounding, averaging 10.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game through the first two games. He scored a career-high 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss to Jackson State on Monday night, and narrowly missed a double-double in each game. The sophomore is currently fourth in the conference in rebounding average.

Meanwhile, senior Brandon Battle is averaging six points and seven rebounds through the first two games, ranking him fifth in the conference in rebounding. The senior grabbed ten rebounds in the season opener against Grambling State on Saturday.

The Hornets have a pair of players in the top ten in blocks and steals through the first weekend of play, with Jordan O'Neal leading the conference in average blocks per game (3.5) after four blocks against Grambling State and another three against Jackson State. Meanwhile, DJ Heath leads the conference at 3.5 steals per game after recording four against Grambling State and another three against Jackson State.

They will face a UAPB squad led by reigning SWAC Player of the Week, Shaun Doss, who is averaging 17.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. Although he is the lone player in double figures for UAPB, a pair of teammates are close to double figures as Dequan Morris averages 9.1 points and Markedric Bell 9.0 through the season's first ten games.

Alabama State leads the all-time series with UAPB 30-18, including winning 15 of the 24 matchups between the two teams in Pine Bluff. The two teams last met on February 10, 2020, in Pine Bluff, with Alabama State ending a three-game losing streak to the Golden Lions 57-49. Although the Hornets lead the series on the road, UAPB has won three of the last five meetings at H.O. Clemmons Arena.
