STARKVILLE, Miss. |Â Alabama State (16-4 last season) begins the 2021-22 season with a pair of road contests this week, opening with Mississippi State on Tuesday night inside the Humphrey Coliseum.

The Hornets will take the floor for a 6 pm (CT) tip on SEC Network+ for the first of four times this season. Tuesday's game will be the first non-conference opponent in just under two years for Alabama State after playing a conference only schedule last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

GAME NOTES
- Alabama State returns 11 players from last season led by First Team Preseason All-SWAC members Ayana Emmanuel (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Shmya Ward (Memphis, Tenn.), both who averaged at least 16 points per game.
- The Hornets also return the reigning SWAC Freshman of the Year in Farrah Pearson (Hazel Green, Ala.) at 7.5 points and 4.5 rebounds a game, along with returning over 90 percent of their scoring from last year.
- Tuesday is the fifth meeting between the two schools all-time, with Mississippi State leading 4-0, including winning the last meeting on December 20, 2016, by a score of 90-47. The teams first met in 1989 with the Bulldogs beating the Hornets 94-54 in Starkville.
- The Hornets are looking to win their first non-conference win since defeating Paine 84-58 on November 24, 2019, in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
