Alabama State to take on No. 25/20 North Carolina in road matchup on Tuesday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. | Alabama State returns to the court for their final game before Christmas with a matchup against ACC opponent North Carolina on Tuesday afternoon. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 pm (EST) inside the Carmichael Arena.
 
The Tar Heels will be the first Atlantic Coast Conference opponent for Alabama State (2-6) this season, and first since the Hornets traveled to face Clemson on November 18, 2019. North Carolina and Alabama State have met just once in program history, a matchup in November of 2016, also in Chapel Hill.

GAME NOTES
  • Alabama State dropped a 54-84 contest in their only meeting with North Carolina in series history. Both teams are coming off wins, with Alabama State defeating Mobile 79-44, while North Carolina beat Boston College on the road 76-73.
  • The Hornets displayed their best offensive performance so far in the win over the Rams. They ended the night shooting a season-best 51.6 (32-of-62) percent from the floor, while also finishing at 27.3 (3-of-11) percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 (14-of-18) percent from the free throw line.
  • ASU had five players in double figures in their last game, led by DaKiyah Sanders (Birmingham, Ala.) and Tamia Stallings (Brookhaven, Miss.) with 14 points each in the win. Jada Nneji (Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada) and Jayla Crawford (Birmingham, Ala.) rounded out the double figure scorers with 11 points and 10 points respectively in the win.
  • Reigning SWAC Freshman of the Year Farrah Pearson (Hazel Green, Ala.) is the lone Hornet to start every game on the season, as ASU has used a different lineup to start in each contest.
  • First Team Preseason All-SWAC forward Shmya Ward (Memphis, Tenn.) scored 12 points and six rebounds in 21 minutes against Mobile in her first action of the season after recovering from an injury.
