MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State took an early lead but had no answer for a first half run from Samford that built the lead to double digits, falling to the Bulldogs 74-64 at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome on Wednesday night.
Alabama State (1-8) found themselves down by 20 at 60-40 with ten minutes to play, however, they went on a 19-8 run over an eight-minute span to pull within 68-59. They couldn't get any closer than seven down the stretch as Samford finished the night shooting 65.2 (15-of-23) percent from the free throw line on the night.
The Hornets went 1-for-10 down the stretch from the field after cutting the lead to seven.
Kenny Strawbridge (Rockford, Ill.) led Alabama State with 14 points and seven rebounds, while
Juan Reyna (San Antonio, Texas) added 12 and
E.J. Clark (Dallas, Texas) added 10 in the loss.
Isaiah Range (Cedar Hill, Texas) grabbed nine rebounds to lead Alabama State.
The Hornets finished the night shooting 32.3 (21-of-65) percent from the floor and just 12.5 (4-of-32) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 72.0 (18-of-25) percent from the free throw line.

Alabama State hits the road for a pair of games on the West Coast, beginning with Pepperdine on December 11. The game will tip off at 3 pm (PT) on the West Coast Conference Network.
