@BamaStateWBB hits the road for pair of key contests beginning Monday

BATON ROUGE, La. | Alabama State hits the road for a pair of key Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contests beginning Monday night against Southern.

Alabama State (10-1, 10-1 SWAC) dropped the first meeting 60-56 in Montgomery back on January 25th despite Shmya Ward and Ayana Emmanuel combining for 38 total points. Ward finished the night with team-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Emmanuel added 18 points and nine rebounds. The Jags held Jayla Crawford below her season average, holding her to seven points on the night.

The loss is the only blemish on the record for the Lady Hornets, who tip at 5:30 pm Monday night at the F.G. Clark Activity Center with the game carried on the Hornet Sports Network.

They will also face Alcorn State on the trip this week after the game was postponed on Saturday due to winter weather. The two will meet Wednesday afternoon in a rare midweek afternoon game in Lorman (Miss.), with tip set for 2 pm.

Emmanuel leads Alabama State in scoring at 17.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.1 assists on the season, while shooting 47.7 (61-for-128) percent shooting from the floor and 40.0 (20-for-50) percent from beyond the arc. Wards is averaging 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.1 (74-for-132) percent from beyond the arc.

Crawford is also in double figures at 11.6 points per game, while Tyesha Rudolph is at 8.9 points per game off the bench.
