Kenny Strawbridge scored in double figures for Alabama State, but it wasn't enough as the Hornets dropped a 68-59 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) contest to Alcorn State Wednesday night.
Alabama State, who trailed for most of the game, came back to take a two-point lead before Alcorn State was able to put the game away with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch.
Strawbridge led Alabama State with 14 points and Tate added 13 off the bench for the Hornets who finished the night shooting 37.5 (19-for-48) percent from the floor. They also shot 27.3 (6-for-22) percent from beyond the arc, while also shooting 60.0 (15-for-25) percent from the free throw line.
Troymain Crosby led Alcorn State with 23 points.
Alabama State returns to action Saturday afternoon against Texas Southern inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. The two will tip at 4:30 pm and the game will be carried by the Hornet Sports Network.
