MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Five players scored in double figures to lead Alabama State to a 97-68 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) victory over UAPB Saturday afternoon at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
Alabama State (8-1, 8-1 SWAC), winners of four consecutive games, led wire-to-wire over UAPB and pulled away early to take an 11-point lead at the end of the first quarter. They were able to extend the lead to 41-27 at the break, before pulling away in the second half due in large part to shooting 53.1 (34-for-64) percent from the floor in the win.
They also shot 36.4 (8-for-22) percent from the floor and 72.4 (21-for-29) percent from the free throw line, while holding UAPB to 38.1 (24-for-63) percent shooting from the floor and 27.3 (6-for-22) percent from the free throw line. Alabama State forced 15 turnovers and won the rebounding battle, 42-35, to complete the season sweep over UAPB.
Shmya Ward led the Lady Hornets with 19 points and nine rebounds, while also dishing out four assists and blocking two shots. The redshirt sophomore connected on 8-of-13 shots from the floor, while
Ayana Emmanuel added 18 points with four three-pointers on the night.
Tyesha Rudolph added 17 points off the bench, the fourth consecutive game in double figures for the junior.
Jayla Crawford added 13 and
Farrah Pearson 10 (six rebounds) in the win.
Alabama State returns to action inside the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Monday night against Mississippi Valley State, with tip set for 5:30 pm. The game can be seen on the Hornet Sports Network.

There will be no single-game tickets sold or day of game sales, all tickets must be purchased prior to the day of the game to be admitted into the Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Also, Alabama State is a mask-mandatory campus and masks must be worn throughout the Dunn-Oliver Acadome for the entirety of the contest.
