Alabama State falls to No. 7 seed Florida State in opening round of NCAA Tournament on Friday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. | Alabama State had their season come to end at the Tallahassee Regional in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, falling 4-0 to No. 7 Florida State at the Scott Speicher Memorial Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.

Alabama State (9-7), who won their fourth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship earlier this year, dropped the doubles' point after the number two team of Madalena Andrade and Francesca Duca dropped a 6-1 decision to eighth-ranked Nandini Das and Andrea Garcia. The point was decided when Bea Acena and Urska Velec dropped a hard-fought match to 89th-ranked Petra Hule and Giulia Pairone, 6-3 after being tied at 3-all early in the match.

The number one team of Lizaveta Demchenko and Ana Tarbujaru had their match halted after the point was decided against 30th-ranked Victoria Allen and Emmanuelle Salas.

In singles play, Florida State (17-5) was able to capture three wins and have the match abandoned with three matches remaining on the court. The Seminoles picked up a win at number five where Victoria Allen defeated Timothee Legaud 6-0, 6-0; while Andrea Garcia picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Alabama State's Anja Hribljan at number six.

The match was decided at number four where Petra Hule defeated Duca 6-1, 6-1.

A pair of matches were in the second set including at number one where 12th-ranked Pairone was leading Andrade 6-1, 3-2. Meanwhile, Demchenko dropped the first set to 44th-ranked Salas 6-4 after leading midway through the set, as the two were just beginning the second set.

Florida State advances to the second round where they will face Auburn for the right to move to the Round of 16.
