Hornets return home on Tuesday night, host Oglethorpe

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State returns home to the Dunn-Oliver Acadome hosting Oglethorpe at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
 
Alabama State (0-2) will play seven of its next nine games inside the state of Alabama including three games at home. The Hornets will play at Memphis on Friday (Nov. 17) before three games in Birmingham. They return home for a game on Dec. 3 before playing at LSU on Dec. 13. The final two games of the stretch include USC at home on Dec 19 and at Auburn on Dec. 22.

  • Alabama State currently ranks among the nation's best in a few categories through the first week of the season including the free throws category. The Hornets are 72nd overall in the nation at 75.6 percent, with the nation's leader being St. John's at 91.7 percent, and the Southwestern Athletic Conference [SWAC] leader, UAPB at 80.4 percent.
  • They also ranked in the top 75 in three rebounding categories including Rebound Per Game at 40th with a 46.00 rebounds per average through games with Ole Miss and Iowa. They are also 53rd in defensive rebounds per game at 31.50, and 71st in offensive rebounds per game at 14.50.
  • The Hornets also rank in the top 100 at 98th overall in three-point field goal percentage defense at 27.6 percent through the first two games.
  • Junior transfer CJ Hines is among the nation's best in free throws through the first two games of the season. He currently ranks 26th in free throws with 15 [nation's leader - Jabri Abdur-Rahim from Georgia has 23] and is 32nd in free throws attempted with 18 [nation's leader - Jabri Abdur-Rahim from Georgia has 27].
  • Junior guard TJ Madlock ranks among the nation's best in a pair of categories through the first two games against Ole Miss and Iowa, ranking 61st in defensive rebounds per game at 7.00 [nation's leader - [Dillon Jones, Weber St. is 12.00]. He is also ranked 68th in field goal attempts at 34 [nation's leader - Joe French, UAPB has 64].
Oglethorpe Notes
  • Oglethorpe split its first two games of the season on the road, defeating Pacific and falling to Willamette.
  • Head coach Phillip Ponder is in his 21st season at the helm of Oglethorpe and has a 281-236 record during that time.
  • Perry Robinson is averaging a double-double through the first two games of the season, averaging 25.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
