NORMAN, Okla. | The Alabama State University women's basketball team fell to the Univeristy of Oklahoma Sooners 92-46 on Wednesday.
Shmya Ward led the Hornets (0-4) with 17 points and two steals. DaKiyah Sanders added five points and Kristian Jackson chipped in as well with eight points off of the bench.
Alabama State forced 16 Oklahoma turnovers. The Hornets turned those takeaways into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Ward's two steals led the way for Alabama State.
How It Happened
Alabama State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 29-10 at the end of the first quarter.
The Hornets continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 45-22 halftime deficit.
Alabama State came out of halftime on fire, going on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 45-27 with 9:09 to go in the third. Oklahoma countered and stretched its lead to 66-30 heading into the fourth. Alabama State played well near the basket, scoring four of its eight points in the paint.
Alabama State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 92-46. Alabama State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 16 points in the paint.
