MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State hits the road to open the 2023-24 season against Southeastern Conference (SEC) foe Ole Miss on Monday night at The Pavilion, the first of two road games to open the season for the Hornets.

Alabama State Notes
- The Hornets defeated LaGrange 90-69 in an exhibition contest on Monday, Oct. 30, playing 13 players in the process.
- Sean Smith led Alabama State with a career-high 17 points on 50 (5-for-10) percent shooting from the floor while knocking down seven free throws. He paced four players in double figures in the game, while Micah Octave and Eric Coleman led the Hornets with seven rebounds each.
- TJ Madlock was named preseason Second Team All-Conference after earning the 2022-23 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Year. He averaged 11.2 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last season.
- Isaiah Range returns after missing the last eight games of the season following a season-ending injury. Before he was injured, Range led Alabama State in scoring at 14.2 points per game.
- Alabama State returns 46.2 percent of its scoring from last season, and 38.9 percent of its rebounding from a season ago.
- The Hornets welcome a host of newcomers this year including transfer CJ Hines, a NAIA All-American a season ago after averaging 21.4 points per game.
- Head coach Tony Madlock, in his second season at Alabama State, returns to Oxford (Miss.) where he served as an assistant coach from 2014-18 and as the interim head coach for the final five games of the season in 2018.
Ole Miss Notes
- Chris Beard enters his first season as the head coach of the Rebels with a career record of 237-98 overall, earning 2019 AP National Coach of the Year honors.
- Matthew Murrell and Jaemyn Brakfield return after leading the Rebels in scoring last season. They have combined to play 154 games, scored 1,538 points, grabbed 578 rebounds, and made 205 three-pointers in their careers.
- Ole Miss returns five players from a season ago and welcomes in 11 newcomers on the 2023-24 roster.
- Jamarion Sharp, a transfer from WKU, is the nation's tallest player at 7'5" and was named to the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Preseason Watch List.
- The Rebels welcome in transfers Moussa Cisse (Oklahoma State), Sharp (WKU), Allen Flanigan (Auburn), Brandon Murray (LSU/Georgetown), Jaylen Murphy (St. Peter's) and Austin Nunez (Arizona State).
