MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State closes out the road portion of its non-conference schedule Friday night in Tampa (Fla.) against South Florida.

The matchup is the first for the two teams although Alabama State is no stranger to the state of Florida, having played 71 games all-time against opponents from the Sunshine State. The Hornets have faced Bethune-Cookman, Edward Waters, Florida, Florida A&M, FIU, Florida State, Miami, and UCF.

Alabama State (4-7) has dropped its last three games falling to LSU, USC, and Auburn. Meanwhile, South Florida (6-4) has won its last four games including wins over Florida State and UAPB.

Alabama State Notes
- TJ Madlock and Isaiah Range swept the SWAC Player of the Week awards after their performances against USC and Auburn. Madlock won his third Player of the Week award, while Range won his first Impact Player of the Week.
- Alabama State has at last one three-pointer in 230 consecutive games dating back to the 2016-17 season. The last time the Hornets did not hit a three came against UAPB (1/11/16). The only other contest the streak was threatened came against North Alabama (11/28/21) when the Hornets hit just one.
- Range is 39 points away from 1,000 career points and Madlock is just 79 points away from the career mark. Along with CJ Hines, the trio has scored 3,545 career points.
- Ubong Okon is fourth in the conference in rebounding at 6.6 per game after grabbing 30 total rebounds against LSU, USC, and Auburn.
- The Hornets are 36-35 all-time against schools in the state of Florida with tonight's game marking the first against South Florida in school history.
South Florida Notes
- The Bulls enter tonight's game after a double-digit victory over UAlbany in their last game before the break with five players scoring in double figures. It marked the third time this season that South Florida had five players score in double figures in a game.
- South Florida has outscored every team this season in points off the bench.
- The Bulls have held an opponent to 27 points or less in a half five times this season.
- South Florida is one of the best teams in the country in free throws, making 17.6 per game and have attempted 23.9 per game.
