@BamaStateSB Splits Doubleheader With Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. | The Alabama State Lady Hornets softball team earned a split of a doubleheader with SWAC foe Alabama A&M, completing a three-game series on Tuesday at Bulldog Field.

ASU took the first game, 6-5, to clinch the series win but was unable to earn a sweep, falling 4-3, in the second game. The Hornets had won the first game of the series on Thursday, March 15.

 HOW IT HAPPENED  - Game 1
  • ASU jumped out to a 5-1 lead through four innings before A&M came storming back, scoring two unearned runs in the seventh to pull within a run.  
  • Alexia Denby opened the scoring with a solo home run in the top of the first.
  • The Hornets added two runs in the third without the benefit of a hit.
  • After the Bulldogs recorded their first run of the game in the bottom half of the third, ASU added to its lead with an infield RBI single from Kindall DeRamus and a sac fly from Jasmine Rogers.  
  • The Hornets tacked on an unearned run in the sixth after Bailey Greenlee singled and Lauryn Maher scored on the play on an A&M error.
IN THE CIRCLE  - Game 1
  • Greenlee (8-5) picked up the win pitching five innings. She gave up two earned runs and struck out eight.
  • Olivia Brown pitched the final two innings giving up a couple of runs on three hits. Neither of the runs were earned. 
INSIDE THE BOX - Game 1
  • Denby continued her torrid pace with her 10th home run of the season, knocking in two runs. 
  • Greenlee had two-singles, a run scored and an RBI.  
  • DeRamus, Kiana Parrish and Jaeda Gardner each had hits for the Lady Hornets.  
HOW IT HAPPENED  - Game 2
  • ASU led the entire game, owning as much as a two-run lead before the Bulldogs scored a run in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull out the win.  
  • The Hornets led 2-0 after scoring single runs in the second and third innings. Leah Richardson had a run-scoring single in the second. Brooke Ramsey knocked in an unearned run in the third.
  • Gardner pushed the lead to 3-1 with a single that scored Maher.
  • A&M scored twice in the seventh with the winning run scoring on a two-out single by Brooklyn Wallace.
IN THE CIRCLE -  Game 2
  • Olivia Brown pitched into the fourth inning, allowing one earned run on four hits.
  • Ashley Bye (2-3) was the losing pitcher, going 3 and 2/3 innings, giving up three runs but only one earned. 
INSIDE THE BOX  - Game 2
  • Brooke, Parrish and Leah Richardson each had two hits. Ramsey and Richardson had RBIs. Richardson also reached with a walk.
  • Gardner had a single, an RBI and a walk.  
  • JaNiyah Boykin had a single, a walk and a run scored for ASU
UP NEXT: The Lady Hornets return home to face Jacksonville State University on Wednesday at 5 p.m. (CT) at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex
